The president of National Consolidation Group, Hon. Ajon Ugboho, has described the resignation of the former national chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Bamanga Tukur, as a sacrifice to save the party's soul.
Speaking in Abuja yesterday, Hon. Ugboho said the leaders and stakeholders of PDP could not just sit down and watch their party, which has been going strong amidst numerous challenges, collapse before their eyes.
He also commended the Ex-chairman, Bamanga Tukur, for making the ultimate sacrifice and putting the interest of his party above his personal interests.
“Like President Goodluck Jonathan acknowledged during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that ratified Tukur’s resignation, the former national chairman did his best for the PDP.
"The president said Tukur is, in fact, not guilty in any way; and even promised to give him a job that is tougher than PDP. For me, that is a strong testimony.
“I have always said that PDP as a party has enviable mechanisms of resolving its crisis. The party is gradually overcoming the crisis caused by those who wanted the party to crumble. But I can assure you that PDP has come a long way and remains a formidable political force. And that is why when PDP sneezes, the entire country catches cold,”
Hon Ajon Ugboho also commended the recent visit of the North-west PDP to President Goodluck Jonathan at the presidential villa, Abuja, where the president was reassured of the region’s support.
Noting that the visit was a recognition of the Jonathan administration’s efforts at delivering good governance, he called on Nigerians to continue to support the federal government’s programmes and policies aimed at improving quality of life and setting the country on a fast track of development.
