Chelsea FC sack steward for calling Cesc Fabregas a 'snake' for leaving Arsenal

A steward has been sacked by Chelsea for calling midfielder Cesc Fabregas  a 'snake' for leaving Arsenal. In a video shared online by ArsenalfanTV host Moh Haider yesterday, the steward can be heard saying "You're a snake, you're Arsenal, what happened to you?" before the eight-second clip is cut short.

Haider, who claimed he was given permission by the steward in question to share the incident, tweeted a preview of the video before promising to share the full incident if it reached 1,000 re-tweets. The tweet reached the mark within some hours and has since spread all over social media.

The video footage of the incident, which took place at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, emerged online yesterday and Chelsea have reportedly confirmed action has been taken against the steward in question.

Real Madrid president bans Cristiano Ronaldo from travelling to Morocco to spend time with best friend

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly banned star player Cristiano Ronaldo from traveling to Morocco to see best friend Badr Hari. According to a report by El Espanyol, transcribed by Spanish paper Sport, Perez banned Cristiano Ronaldo from his Morocco trips due to his poor form, weary that the player could lose form due to exhaustion and fatigue from his frequent travels.

It is well known that Cristiano Ronaldo frequently flies to Morocco to spend time with his heavyweight kickboxer friend, Badr Hari. Some times he flies in with his private jet four times a week to Morocco with some media outlets suggesting a gay relationship between the pair.

From Monday to Thursday, Ronaldo gets his £14m private jet at 3PM, after Madrid training finishes, to Marrakech before returning to Madrid at night. Whatever his reasons are for doing this, Perez wants it to stop as he believes it’s affecting Ronaldo’s contribution on the pitch, despite scoring 27 goals in all competitions so far.

Perez has even asked his friend Mohamed VI, the King of Morocco, to inform him when Ronaldo comes into the country. If this is true ,it could affect Ronaldo's relationship with the president and spark fresh rumours of the player's exit from the club.

According to him, he dismissed them from service after they were found guilty
"The first scandal I met in one of the parastatals when I assumed office was the illegal employment of 400 people. This scandal started with very senior officers up to level 17 in that department. They sent out letters and text messages asking people to apply for jobs for a fee of N400, 000 and they were given letters of employment. They did not stop there. They invited these people to go and be captured on the IPPIS and they even took cameras to hotels to get them captured. At the end of the day the bubble burst. One of the victims told these officials, you cannot take my money and still disengage me. I have a valid letter. That is how we got to know that there is a dedicated account these people pay to. Of course, we dismissed these officials and we even handed them over to the Police“ he said

Jamie Foxx saves driver trapped in burning car in LA

Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx can lay claim to a new starring role — real life hero.
Foxx braved flames to pull a motorist to safety from a burning pickup truck, one of his representatives confirmed for NBC News.

The actor, who won an Academy Award for his pitch-perfect portrayal of Ray Charles, found himself thrown into an unfamiliar part on Monday when he heard a crash outside the gates of his home in Hidden Valley, a secluded enclave north and west of Los Angeles in Ventura County.
Brett Kyle, 32, of Newbury Park, California, was driving "at a high rate of speed" around 8:30 p.m. PT when he flipped his 2007 Toyota Tacoma into a drainage ditch, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
"It struck a drainage pipe and concrete casing causing the vehicle to roll over multiple times," the report read. "The vehicle came to rest on its passenger side, and became engulfed in flames with Mr. Kyle trapped inside his vehicle."
That's when two men "ran to the burning, overturned truck in an attempt to free the driver," according to the report.
"One of the witnesses retrieved a rescue tool from his vehicle allowing the two citizens to break the window, cut the seat belt, and extricate the driver," the report stated.
Kyle was later taken to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center for his injuries and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Wait, we will now pay N50 to FG every time we receive money in our account?

The Federal Government has imposed a stamp duty of N50 on bank customers for money received into their accounts. This implies that every bank customer will henceforth pay N50 stamp duty for money received into their accounts through electronic transfer, cash and cheques.

This directive was contained in a circular to all Deposit Money Banks and Other Financial institutions titled, "Collection and Remittance of statutory charges on receipts of Nigeria Postal Service under the Stamp Duties Act”.

The circular in part reads

“As part of efforts to boost its revenue base, the federal government of Nigeria is exploring revenue opportunities in the non-oil sectors especially taxes and rates. It is in recognition of this fact that banks and other financial institutions are enjoined to support government’s revenue drive through compliance with the provisions of the Stamp Duties Act, LFN 2004 as reinforced by the court judgement in Suit No FHC/L/CS/1710/2013.
In this regard, the CBN pursuant to the provisions of its enabling laws, hereby issues this circular to all DMBs other financial institutions: With immediate effect, all DMBs and other financial institutions shall commence the charging of N50 per eligible transaction in accordance with the provisions of the Stamp Duties Act and Federal Government Financial Regulations 2009, that is, all receipts given by any bank or other financial institution in acknowledgment of services rendered in respect of electronic transfer and teller deposits from N1, 000 and above; For all avoidance of doubt the following receipts are however exempted from imposition of stamp duties: payments of deposits or transfer by self to self whether inter or intra bank; and any form of withdrawals/transfers from saving accounts; It should be noted that these charges are only payable by receiving accounts; Each DMB shall open an account designated as NIPOST Stamp Duties Account into which all charges collected shall be paid. The balances in such accounts shall be transferred monthly by the DMBs to CBN NIPOST Stamp Duty Collection Account No. 3000047517; Other financial institutions shall remit their Stamp Duty collections to any DMB of their choice”.

Pakistan university under fire as gunmen storm building killing 8 and wounding 20

Gunmen this morning stormed inside a Pakistani university, killing eight people and wounding at least 20. Police officers and the army exchanged gunfire with the attackers at Bacha Khan University in north-west Pakistan. Several explosions were heard.

Police official Tariq Khan said the assault began shortly after the university opened on Wednesday morning in the town of Charsadda, located 21 miles outside the city of Peshawar. Initial reports indicated that a chemistry teacher was among those with fatal injuries.

The militants, using the cover of thick, wintry fog, scaled the walls of the Bacha Khan University before entering buildings and opening fire on students and teachers in classrooms and hostels, police said.

Deputy Inspector General Saeed Wazir said: "All students have been evacuated from the hostels, but militants are still hiding in different parts of the university an

Schoolboy questioned by police after writing that he lived in 'terrorist house' instead of 'terrace house'

A young Muslim boy's spelling error has been probed by police after he wrote that he lived in a 'terrorist house'. The primary school pupil, aged 10, intended to write that he lived in a 'terraced house'. However his error, which was made during English class, had to be probed by police officers.

The unnamed pupil, who attends a primary school in Accrington, Lancashire, was later interviewed by police.
His family's laptop was also searched by specialist officers.

Since July, teachers in the UK are legally obliged to report any suspected extremist behaviour to the authorities, however the boy's family say they are shocked.

His cousin, who has not been named, said the fact that the spelling error was probed by police officers is a "joke".
She said:

"You can imagine it happening to a 30-year-old man, but not to a young child. "If the teacher had any concerns it should have been about his spelling. "They shouldn't be putting a child through this. "He's now scared of writing, using his imagination."
The teacher was legally obliged to report the incident, which took place on December 7 last year, under the 2015 Counter Terrorism and Security Act.

Miqdaad Versi, assistant secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, said:

"There are huge concerns that individuals going about their daily life are being seen through the lens of security and are being seen as potential terrorists rather than students.
"This is a natural consequence of the extension of the 'Prevent Duty' to schools."

In a statement, Lancashire Police said: "This was reported to the police but was dealt with by a joint visit by a PC from the division and social services, not by anyone from Prevent.

"There were not thought to be any areas for concern and no further action was required by any agency."

Woman spends all her money on powerball tickets then creates a Go Fund Me page to ask for funds

A woman by the name of Cinnamon Nicole from Cordova, has raised a little more than $800 in seven hours via her Powerball Reimbursement Go Fund Me page. Nicole alleges to have spent all of her money on purchasing tickets with the assumption she would win the $1.6 billion jackpot, but soon realized the winning tickets were sold in Los Angeles, Florida and Tennessee suburbs.

Despite the chances of anyone winning the jackpot being 1 in 292.2 million, Nicole still decided to go big, and unfortunately now can’t go home because she allegedly doesn’t have any money.
She wrote:
Please help me and my family as we have exhausted all of our funds. We spent all of our money on lottery tickets (expecting to win the 1.5 billion) and are now in dire need of cash. With your small donation of at least $1.00, a like  and one share, I’m certain that we will be able to pick ourselves up from the trenches of this lost and spend another fortune trying to hit it big again! PLEASE, won’t you help a family in need. DONATE NOW.
For your charitable donations, Nicole promised to make givers her #MCM or #WCW. Yet, despite the gall of the Go Fund Me Page, some users simply weren’t in support of her attempts.
Sonya Hagans quoted new viral internet star, Michelle Dobyne and wrote “Not tuhday” while Kenyatta Gibson was a bit more spirited in her response.
The page has since been taken down.

Kevin Hart and Ice Cube's 'Ride Along 2' unseats 'Star Wars' at the box office

The box office power of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” wore off this week as Universal Pictures’ “Ride Along 2” unseated the latest chapter in the space saga from the top spot it’s held for four weeks. The sequel to the 2014 buddy cop comedy hit starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube grossed an estimated $34 million in the U.S. and Canada this weekend.
This sets up the film to retain the first place spot through the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend to meet, if not exceed, its $40 million to $45 million in expected ticket sales through Monday.

“I think it starts with the filmmakers and the cast,” said Nick Carpou, Universal’s president of domestic distribution. “In sequels, audiences always play off of how much people like the characters the first time. As we’re trending to be No. 1 for the four-day holiday, our audience is wide and diverse.”

NFL player, Demaryius Thomas' mom watches him play in person for the first time

Denver Broncos receiver Demaryius Thomas has suited up in the NFL for six seasons now, but Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers will be unlike any of the previous 92 he has played in his professional career.

Not because a trip to the AFC Championship Game is on the line - after all, he's played in the Super Bowl. No, this game will be the first time Thomas' mom, Katrina Stuckey Smith, will see him play professionally in person.
According to NFL.com, Smith was sentenced to 20 years in prison back in 2000 on a drug-trafficking charge. In July, Smith was among 46 prisoners whose sentences were commuted by President Barack Obama. She was released from prison to a halfway house in November.
Smith wasn't allowed to travel for 60 days. But now she can, so she made the trip to Denver to watch her son play professional football in person for the first time. People took to twitter to talk about it.

Legendary coach Sir Alex Ferguson to return to Man U if Louis Van Gaal is sacked

Former Man Utd coach Sir Alex Ferguson will return to Manchester United if Louis Van Gaal is sacked and Assistant manager Ryan Giggs is given the role of Head coach at Manchester United.

According to MirrorSport, Sir Alex Ferguson will take up a hands on role and assist Ryan Giggs from now till the end of the season if he is appointed as the new manager because of his close relationship with his former protege and his desire to see Man Utd progress under the Welshman.

As reported in the story;
''If Giggs does take charge before the end of the season, as he did when Moyes was sacked in 2014, he would ask for Ferguson’s help him in the closing months of the campaign – and possibly beyond. I understand Ferguson – who has refused offers to comment on United since he stepped down – wouldn’t refuse that request, especially from one of his favourite former stars, although it’s believed he wouldn’t want a return to the dugout.''
Whether the Ferguson story is true or not, the underlying point is that LVG is walking a tightrope once again. United are currently fifth in the division, and fears are starting to heighten that the Red Devils will not qualify for the Champions League next season.

Fayose cautions Buhari over probe of military chiefs, says "$2.1bn arms deal is a scam"

Read the press statement from Ekiti state government below...
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has advised President Mohammadu Buhari on his order for 18 Military Generals to be probed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged involvement in the $2.1 billion arms deal.
Governor Fayose, who reacted to the president order for the 18 serving and retired military chiefs to appear before the EFCC from Monday, through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said the military officers ought to have been probed in accordance with the armed forces rules of engagement.

The governor, who reiterated his support for the fight against corruption, said "the $2.1 billion arms deal is a scam because all that they are just doing is to brandish figures to deceive Nigerians and demonized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and those opposed to his dictatorship in the All Progressive Congress (APC). Till today, the amount they have charged people for stealing is not up to N10 billion and $2.1 billion they claimed was stolen is about N600 billion.

"The president must let Nigerians see where the arms deal is in the 2015 Budget and publish details of the imaginary $2.1 billion scam. Also, the President must tell Nigerians how his friend, Jafaru Isa was able to return N100 million to the EFCC within three days because there are insinuations that the N100 million refunded came from the Presidency."

He said it was strange for serving military generals to be interrogated by junior police officers, adding that; "The president should not act in a way that he will be perceived as ridiculing the armed forces."

He said; "Even though I am not a military officer, but I know that there is what us called orderly room trial or court martial, which military men who erred in the performance of their duties are made to go through. It is until they are found guilty and probably dismissed that they are made to face court trial.

"In this case, how does it feel for a serving Military General to be interrogated by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)? "I think we should not destroy our democratic institutions, especially the judiciary and the armed forces because we are fighting corruption. "Already, the President has ridiculed the judiciary by disobeying the courts and coming on television to say that orders oyf the court do not hold waters. He is also destroying the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by turning it to commission for inconclusive elections. He should not ridicule the military, and men of goodwill should advise the President to thread cautiously.

"Also, the international community, especially the United States, United Kingdom and the United Nations should caution the President against actions capable of bringing down institutions of government under the guise of fighting corruption."

LASG allays fears on outbreak of Lassa fever

The Lagos State Government on Saturday called on residents to remain calm over the outbreak of Lassa fever, just as it assured that it is doing everything possible to curtail the spread of the virus in the State.
Addressing journalists at the Alausa Secretariat, on the first case of the disease recorded in the State, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris said in line with international standards, 92 persons who had direct and indirect contact with the index case are currently being followed-up.
Idris confirmed that the index case, a 25-year-old male undergraduate of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, was reported to have fallen ill after arriving in Lagos and was taken to Ahmmadiyyah Hospital, Ojokoro on January 9 with complaint of fever, sore throats and difficulty in swallowing.

He said the patient was subsequently placed on admission for six days and was thereafter referred by the said private hospital to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) on January 14, 2016 owing to the fact that the fever was persistent and his condition was not improving.

According to Idris, the patient was confirmed as a case of Lassa fever on January 15, at LUTH, and is currently being managed to the extent that his condition is now stable.

Idris added that 15 in-patients who were admitted alongside the index case as well as 25 health workers who attended to them have been placed on compulsory 21 days monitoring, and that the phone numbers and addresses of the persons in that category have also been collected for proper tracking.

Any of the persons in that category with temperature above 38.5, according to Idris, would be isolated so as to prevent the spread of the disease, while they have also been advised on the need to maintain little or no contact with others, at least for now.

The Commissioner said: “Though Lassa fever and Ebola Virus Disease belong to the same Viral Hemorrhagic fever group, Lassa fever is milder and can be treated and cured if defected early. Therefore, any persistent fever should be reported to the nearest public health facility.

“Residents are urged to watch out for the signs and symptoms of Lassa fever which typically occur with incubation period of 1-3 weeks after the patient comes into contact with the virus. Early symptoms of the disease include fever, headache, chills, diarrheas, nausea, vomiting, sore throat, backache, and joint pains.
“Late symptoms include bleeding from the eyes, ears and nose, bleeding from the mouth and rectum, eye swelling, swelling of the genitals and rashes all over the body that often contain blood. It could progress to coma, shock and death,” he said.
While stating that drugs and other materials have been prepositioned at the designated facilities across the State, Idris said isolation centres have equally been prepared to manage suspected and confirmed cases, adding that the State Government is fully prepared to manage the situation and as such people should not panic for whatever reasons.

On steps to be taken to prevent the spread of the disease, Idris urged residents to “avoid contact with rats, ensure proper collection and disposal of waste, cover all foods including left-overs and water properly, wash their hands properly before and after cooking of foods, block all rat hideouts and store food items in rodent-proof containers.”

"I always wanted to be a designer but after the attack there was a pause in my life. I was so insecure and embarrassed by my scars I used to cover my face with a scarf. Years after, she has been able to conquer her fears as she has launched her own clothing line and is modeling them alongside other acid attack survivors. What an amazing story! See more photos of Rupa and her models
